It's spring!

Meteorologically speaking spring starts on the 1st of March, summer on the 1st of June, autumn on September 1st and winter on December 1st.

The spring equinox however is not until 20th March.

However, today the meteorologists have got it correct!

Spring has sprung!

The almond trees are in full blossom...

...and the bees are delighted to be back to work!

Now winter is hopefully behind us...

...let's look forward to the rest of the year!

First almond blossom!

One month ago we saw an almond tree in full blossom. However, it wasn't where we live, it was when we were on holiday in Gran Canaria.

Today, in our garden, we saw the first flowers open on one of our almond trees. The remainder will not be far behind!

Santa Agueda

This year as usual breakfast for the ladies of the village was held in the bar at 10 a.m. 

It consisted of a cup of the special thick hot chocolate and churros to dip in.

In the afternoon, at 16.30, there was the mass in the church and the statue of Santa Agueda was carried around the village.

The special cakes were blessed...

...and then taken to the hall next to the bar where they were eaten by the ladies with a glass of cava.

Despite it being a very cold day the celebrations were enjoyed by all.

Gran Canaria!

We spent the evening before our flight to Gran Canaria in the city of Barcelona with our very good friends Maria and Juan.

They gave us a quick tour of the centre of the city which was all lit up and looked amazing.

We visited the former cathedral...

...and had a splendid meal in a lovely restaurant with them...

...before making our way back to the hotel. A wonderful start to the holiday!

The sunrises were quite stunning and each morning I took a few shots. 

Every sunrise, and sunset, is different!

Lunch each day was a fairly simple affair but we always had a good view to go with it!

It would be nice to say to people who ask what we did on holiday to reply, 'nothing, we had a holiday', but we did venture to the centre of the island on one occasion.

The scenery as always is quite stunning...

...and the almond trees were already in blossom.

A relaxing cup of tea in the Parador at the 'Cruz de Tejeda' at the highest point where it was cold, wet and windy!

Another day we had a walk into town and along the sea front.

An amazing 'sand sculpture' which we saw on the beach when we visited the market at Puerto Mogán.

And so to the shots of the sunsets...

...and the moon.

What a fantastic holiday! Can't wait to go back next January!
