Back to Bellver

Not to be put off by our experience at Castillo Bellver the day before we drove there again only this time up to the castle car park itself rather than parking at the entrance gates.

We had an enjoyable morning coffee knowing that we would be able to enter the castle after. The fortified tower is known as a donjon and is connected to the castle by a high bridge.

It was another grey day however with the possibility of rain...

...just as long as it wasn't going to rain enough to fill up that moat!

Bellver Castle is one of the few circular castles in Europe and is unique in Spain.

Inside the castle was even more impressive than the outside with Gothic semi-circular arches.

Since 1976 the castle has housed the History Museum of the city of Palma.

There were crowds of people there - we had to wait a long time to take some of these photos.

In the centre of the courtyard is a well.

There are great panoramic views from the ramparts.

To finish off the day we visited the beach to the south east of Palma...

...but it was still overcast although the rain, apart from a few drops, had kept away.
