More blossom.
Another sunny day and there is more blossom on the almond trees much to the delight of the bees.
Sudoku
Margaret started playing Sudoku on her phone when we were on holiday last month. She then discovered that the same software was on my iPad and has been playing almost every day since we returned, gradually improving her game.
Today, she has just produced her best time for a game so far.
There's still another 3% to go though!
(By the way - she says that it is very difficult to get such a high score on a "Simple" game.)

The Amas de Casa go to Valdealgorfa
8 ladies from the Amas de Casa group in Torre del Compte visited the neighbouring village of Valdealgorfa to see an exhibition of traditional costume.
The village church has some superb "barley-sugar" columns, (Solomonic columns), at each side and above the main door.
The church also has a majestic tower with a working clock, pity it wasn't the correct time.
The clothes were typical of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The remains of the local pond life don't appear too friendly though!

It's official! Spring's here!!
Spring has arrived according to the bees buzzing around the almond trees in the garden today.
In previous years the almond trees have come into blossom before the bees and other insects have woken up.
Today, the bees were virtually queuing up to get to the blossom and the trees were alive with the sound of them buzzing from one flower to another.
They couldn't wait for the next flower to open!

Hopefully this will be a sign of a good crop of almonds to come.

The cookery course!
The cookery course for the Amas de Casa of Torre del Compte has started again and this week it was off to a fine start with 3 great recipes from Carlos.
The first was for Rollo de carne picada or a Minced meat and egg loaf...
...the 2nd was Alcachofas rellanas de jamón de Teruel or Artichokes stuffed with Teruel ham....
...and the 3rd was Tarta de almendra con Queso y Mango or an Almond, cheese and mango tart.
All 3 dishes had to be fully tested by the ladies present!

Logs on the blog!
The idea was that if we went away in January when it was very cold and returned in February when it was getting warmer that we wouldn't need so much heating and that we would then get logs during the summer ready for next winter.
However, while we were away in January it was relatively mild and as soon as we returned the temperature fell and we have had a severe cold spell since. Consequently, we needed a fresh supply of logs.
Ramón brought them yesterday and at the same time pulled out a small apple tree which had been looking decidedly sick.
Here they only burn olive wood; it gives out a lot more heat and burns longer than pine.
Earlier today, Margaret stacked the logs so now we have a plentiful supply again.

Jorge's 50th birthday present!
Just over 2 months after Jorge's birthday party, his present is ready!
We all met in his mother's house in the village where he was given it.
The view is of the street where he lives looking towards the church and is painted and then fired onto a tile by a local artist. An original present and well worth the wait!

Santa Águeda
It was so cold this year that Santa Águeda was only given a shortened tour of the village.
However the temperature outside didn't stop the ladies of Torre del Compte enjoying a great meal in the bar/restaurant...
...and dancing with entertainment throughout the afternoon into the evening...
