Last time we left Hacienda Zorita we came straight home. However, this time we spent 2 nights in Salamanca in a very nice hotel...
...which had a superb restaurant with a very good menu for evening meal and breakfast.
In the photo above is one of my favourites, codillo de cerdo al horno , which is a roast pig's knee.
Included in the meal was the cheese board - this would have cost as much as we paid for the entire meal here if we had chosen it at Hacienda Zorita!
The next morning was quite chilly so the first thing I had to do was to buy a fleece top - the car had to be parked in a car park 1 km away and that had my jacket in.
Salamanca has 2 cathedrals joined together. The oldest is 12th century and the new one was built between the 16th - 18th century.
We have found that one of the best ways to discover a city is to take the tourist train...
...so we had a ride on that around the city.
Number 7 is the doorway of Beatriz Galindo, who was the first woman to attend the University in the 15th century, dressed as a man.
From the tourist train we saw lots of fascinating features.
A visit to the cathedrals is a must.
The columns, the ceiling and the main altar are phenomenal.
The choir stalls and organ are very impressive.
Each side chapel is a work of art.

The architectural and decorative style is so different just a few hundred years apart.
I'm not sure who is in these tombs but they've been here a long time.
Above is the speciality of the region which we had for lunch, slices of pork in pastry, superb!
There are also some interesting manhole covers around the city.
After an exhausting day exploring the city it was back to the hotel for evening meal.
The dish above is known as a "fan of cold cuts", una fuente de fiambres.
To break the journey from Salamanca we stayed at a charming guest house in the tiny village of Pelegrina...
...complete with the ruined castle.
